The Axcel is the flagship front wheel drive chair from Avid, the complex rehab division of Merits Health Products. It is coded K0856 and K0861 as a Group 3 power base, which puts it in the class of chairs built for full time users who need real positioning technology rather than a basic captain seat. Standard power tilt runs 0 to 50 degrees and power recline runs 85 to 160 degrees with 6 inches of shear reduction, so pressure relief and posture changes happen at the joystick without a transfer.
What separates the Axcel from most Group 3 bases at this level is the ride. Front wheel drive puts the 14 by 3 inch drive tires first over thresholds, ramps and grass, and the frame carries full hydraulic shock absorbers at both ends with large 9 inch casters trailing behind. Merits pairs that with front and rear LED lighting as standard equipment, a detail many rehab bases still treat as an upgrade.
Seating is handled by the Frequency system, which adjusts from 14 to 22 inches in both width and depth on the same hardware. A clinician can size the chair to the user today and open it up later as needs change, and the rails accept Merits Precision Comfort cushions as well as third party backs, laterals and headrests. R-Net 120A electronics run the chair, the same platform used across the CRT industry for expandable and alternative drive controls.

Common Axcel accessories fitted at order time or added later include a USB charging port at the seat, a weather cover, a cup holder with its mounting bracket, a side storage bag and an oxygen tank holder sized for a D cylinder. The rear battery door is marked for unoccupied transfer only during battery service by a second person. Daily driving happens through the R-Net joystick, which controls speed profiles, lighting and every power seat function from one hand position. I needed a mobility scooter that was auto-folding, but not overly engineered where problems can arise, was not too heavy to lift by myself, would easily fit in the trunk of my car, and not be overly expensive. Wishful thinking I thought. Until I discovered the MOJO on my computer. This scooter ticked all my boxes, and more. It is comfortable, well built, is easy to charge the batteries without having to bend down to remove them, and even if you do want to remove them they are accessible from the standing position. the tiller is fully adjustable as are the arm rests, the folding/unfolding functions are easily initiated, and the axle release is easily achieved. A well engineered piece of kit. Now, for the customer service: I can honestly say that I have never come across anything like it; it is absolutely perfect. The gentleman I dealt with 'bent over backwards' to help me without pressuring me into a purchase, and to ensure I was buying a scooter that was right for me. Because I live in New Zealand I knew I was creating a lot more work for him, but he never complained. This and my MOJO are very much appreciated.
