Quick Overview

The Avid by Merits Ultra HD P331 is the heavy duty powerbase in the Avid complex rehab line from Merits Health Products. It pairs a 450 lb weight capacity with a mid wheel drive layout that turns in just 21 inches, so larger riders get true indoor maneuverability without stepping up to a wide rear wheel drive frame. The base itself measures only 27 inches across, narrow enough for standard doorways and hallway turns.

Seating is where the Ultra HD separates from consumer heavy duty chairs. The 4 post rehab seat adjusts from 20 to 24 inches in width and 16 to 20 inches in depth, the backrest reclines from 90 to 110 degrees, and the factory can build the chair with power tilt up to 50 degrees plus positioning components, trunk supports and headrest choices. That makes the P331 a chair a supplier or clinician can actually fit to the rider rather than a one size frame.

Underneath, dual in line 2 pole 200W motors drive 12 inch wheels through front and rear suspension, clearing thresholds and uneven pavement while keeping the ride settled. A pair of 22NF batteries in a tool free battery box delivers up to 19 miles per charge with the 55Ah AGM option. The Ultra HD carries HCPCS code K0837 for Group 2 heavy duty power wheelchairs rated 301 to 450 lb.

This chair shipped for years as the Merits Vision Ultra HD and was folded into the new Avid by Merits rehab brand with the same P331 model number, so parts, manuals and service history all carry over.

Options & Upgrades

Accessories

Merits offers a USB charger and an oxygen tank holder bag as add on accessories for the Ultra HD. The 4 post seat frame also accepts common rehab seating hardware such as lateral trunk supports in three sizes, elevating legrests and swing away joystick brackets, so the chair can grow with changing positioning needs.

How to Purchase & What's Included

Can I order the P331 over the phone?

Yes. Call us toll free at 1-888-233-5563 and we will take care of everything. All we need is your payment method and your shipping address.

If you are still deciding, we are glad to talk you through the options and help you land on the right choice.

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the P331?

Most products in this range do not meet the strict medical device rules that Medicare and Medicaid use, so they rarely qualify for coverage. We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly.

Some private plans will reimburse you outside of the Medicare framework. The best way to find out is to call your insurer and ask. If they say yes, we are happy to provide an invoice and proof of purchase so you can file for reimbursement.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.

Financing & Monthly Payments

You can spread the cost of your P331 over time with Klarna. Choose monthly installments or a lease to own plan at checkout. The minimum monthly amount shows next to the price near the top of this page.

Shipping, Warranty & Returns

Shipping

How long until my P331 arrives?

Orders typically leave the warehouse within one to three business days. Once on the way, expect a transit time of around three to seven business days depending on your distance from the warehouse.

The stock status sits just under the product title near the top of this page. If it shows a lead time, the ship out window is that lead time plus the normal transit time above.

Will I get tracking?

Yes. As soon as your order ships we email you a tracking link so you can follow it all the way to your door.

Warranty

What warranty comes with the P331?

Merits backs the P331 with a manufacturer limited warranty. The exact coverage terms for this model are listed in the Specifications tab and the product documentation. Normal wear items and damage from misuse or accidents are excluded, as with all manufacturer warranties.

If something goes wrong, reach out to us first. We can often sort out a fix over the phone or ship a replacement part. Contact us and we will help.

Returns

Can I return the P331?

Yes, returns are possible. Please read the full returns policy for the details.

Documentation, Manuals & Safety

Official Merits documents for the Ultra HD P331

Key safety notes. The chair is rated for slopes up to 6 degrees, so avoid steeper ramps and side slopes. The included transit tie down brackets are for securing an unoccupied chair only, and the rider should transfer to a vehicle seat during transport. Always wear the seat belt, keep speed low in tilt, and charge only with the supplied 6A off board charger.

Daily Operation & Transportation

Daily driving runs through the PG VR2-A2 joystick, which a supplier can program for speed, acceleration and braking feel to match the rider. Top speed is 5 mph and the mid wheel base turns within its own footprint, so kitchens, bathrooms and store aisles stay manageable.

Charging is simple. Plug the 6A off board charger into the joystick port overnight and the twin 22NF batteries wake up ready for as much as 19 miles with the 55Ah AGM option. The tool free battery box slides open without wrenches when the batteries eventually need replacement.

For transportation, plan on a van, lift or trailer. The Ultra HD weighs 288 to 310 lb depending on configuration and does not fold or disassemble into car trunk pieces. Unoccupied transit tie down brackets come standard for securing the chair in a vehicle, and the 2.875 inch ground clearance rides up standard ramps without scraping. Store the chair indoors and keep the batteries topped up if it will sit unused for more than a week.

Common Questions

How much weight can the Merits Ultra HD carry

The Ultra HD P331 is rated for riders up to 450 lb on its heavy duty mid wheel drive powerbase.

Is the Ultra HD the same chair as the Merits Vision Ultra HD

Yes. Merits moved the Vision Ultra HD into its Avid by Merits rehab line and now markets it as the Ultra HD. The model number is still P331 so parts, manuals and service all carry over.

How far does the Ultra HD go on a charge

With the 55Ah 22NF AGM battery option Merits rates the chair for up to 19 miles per charge. The smaller 33Ah U1 battery option delivers up to 8 miles.

Does the Ultra HD have power tilt

Power seat tilt from 0 to 50 degrees with an angle adjustable back is a factory option. The standard build has a manual angle adjustable backrest from 90 to 110 degrees.

Will the Ultra HD fit through my doorways

The base is 27 inches wide with a 21 inch turning radius, so it clears standard interior doorways and turns tightly in hallways and bathrooms.

What insurance code does the Ultra HD use

The chair carries HCPCS code K0837 for a Group 2 heavy duty power wheelchair with a 301 to 450 lb rating. Coverage depends on your plan and documentation, and we can point you to a supplier who bills insurance if needed.

Can I transport the Ultra HD in a car

No. At 288 to 310 lb the chair needs a van, lift or trailer. Merits includes transit tie down brackets for securing the unoccupied chair in a vehicle.

Is Merits a Good Brand?

Merits Health Products has been building mobility equipment since 1987 and runs its US operation out of Fort Myers, Florida, with in house manufacturing behind one of the broader power chair and scooter catalogs in the industry. The company is known for delivering dependable heavy duty frames at prices well under the big rehab names, and it backs the Ultra HD with a limited lifetime warranty on the main frame. The Avid by Merits line is the company's dedicated complex rehab push, giving clinicians ATP friendly documentation and configurable seating on proven Merits powerbases like the P331, which has years of service history in the field under its earlier Vision Ultra HD name.
