Quick Overview

Electro Kinetic Technologies builds self propelled crash carts for hospitals and clinics that do not want staff pushing a loaded code cart down a corridor by hand. The cart carries the tools, instruments and medication your team needs at the bedside, holds them in secure storage, and moves itself under battery power so the person walking beside it is steering rather than straining.

EK Tech points to research from the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, which found that push and pull forces as low as 35 pounds contribute to musculoskeletal injuries at work. That is why many hospitals now cap how hard staff are allowed to push equipment. A fully stocked crash cart on carpet, on a ramp or down a long corridor passes that limit easily, and a motorized drive takes the force off the person entirely.

There is no catalog model here. EK Tech engineers each crash cart to the requirements you hand them, which is why we quote it instead of listing a price. The customization list EKT publishes for this line covers stainless steel and aluminum frames, customer branding with your color, logo and labeling, multiple user control options including pendant, dual controls and wireless, collision detect systems that watch for obstacles in the travel path, magnetic sensor docking, on board converters for powering your own equipment, dual independent center wheel drive systems for tighter maneuvering, and lithium iron phosphate batteries.

Every cart is built in Germantown Wisconsin alongside the rest of the Pony Express range. If you move records, medication or gas cylinders on the same floors, look at the Pony Express 1033 medical records cart, the custom motorized medication cart and the Pony Express medical gas cylinder cart. Tell us what the cart has to carry and where it travels and we will come back with a configuration and a price.

Crash carts are one of several custom engineered motorized carts EK Tech builds for hospitals and plants.

What size crash cart can EK Tech build?

EK Tech does not publish a fixed size for this line because it is engineered around what you carry. Tell us the supplies, the drawer layout and the doorways and elevators the cart has to clear, and the factory confirms the dimensions and the payload in writing with your quote.

How does the operator drive the cart?

EK Tech offers several control options on its custom carts, including pendant controls, dual controls so the cart can be driven from two positions, and wireless control. We help you pick the one that suits how your staff work during a code.

Can the cart be locked?

Yes. Secure storage for essential medical supplies is part of what EK Tech builds into these carts, and the medical cart range they come from offers individual drawer locks, column locks and electronic keypad locking with a PIN code or a proximity card reader. We confirm the exact locking package with the factory before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a motorized crash cart worth the money?

The cart moves itself, so the person with it is guiding rather than pushing. EK Tech cites Liberty Mutual research showing push and pull forces as low as 35 pounds contribute to musculoskeletal injuries, and a loaded code cart on carpet or a ramp passes that easily. One avoided back injury usually covers the difference between a manual cart and a powered one.

Why is there no price on this page?

There is no standard model. EK Tech engineers each crash cart around the drawer layout, frame material, controls and security you ask for, so the price follows the build. Call us on 1-888-233-5563 or send us your requirements and we will get a written quote back to you, usually the same business day.

Can we have our own color and branding on it?

Yes. EK Tech lists customer branding, color, logo, labeling and custom operator manuals as options on its custom carts, so the cart can match the rest of your fleet and your facility standards.

Does it work in elevators and on ramps?

It is built for hospital and clinic floors, which means elevators, corridors and ramps. Collision detect systems that monitor obstacles in the path of travel and magnetic sensor docking are both available options. Tell us about the ramps and thresholds in your building and EK Tech engineers to them.

Who builds it and what warranty does it carry?

Electro Kinetic Technologies designs and builds it in Germantown Wisconsin. It carries the Electro Kinetic Technologies limited warranty on the frame and drive system, and EKT supports parts for the life of the equipment.
