Overview

Operator control panel close-up on Pony Express motorized cylinder cart

The EK Tech Pony Express MGC-XL48C is the largest-capacity motorized medical gas cylinder cart in the line, carrying up to 48 M7, M9, C, D, or E cylinders on a plasticized coated steel rack. One operator moves a full 2,000 lb load instead of pushing a manual cart.

The EK Tech Pony Express MGC-XL48C is the largest-capacity version of the Pony Express motorized medical gas cylinder cart, built to carry up to 48 small-format medical gas cylinders in a single trip. It accepts M7, M9, C, D, and E cylinders on a welded steel rack finished with a plasticized protective coating. That coating keeps the cylinders from scraping bare metal, so they ride quieter through hospital hallways and labs and stay in better condition over time.

A 2,000 lb-capacity motorized platform does the work that used to take two people pushing and pulling a manual cart. The deep-cycle AGM batteries and enclosed transaxle drive move the loaded cart at 0 to 3 mph with a thumb throttle, and a slow mode caps speed at 1.5 mph for tight or crowded areas. Foam-filled never-flat tires roll across thresholds and ramps, and the cart holds its position on inclines up to 6 degrees thanks to regenerative braking and an automatic holding brake.

The MGC-XL48C carries the same Pony Express build as the rest of the family, including a powder-coated welded steel frame, an on-board UL and cUL listed charger that runs on standard wall power, and a 2-year warranty on the frame and motor. It is designed and manufactured in the USA. This configuration is the right choice for facilities that move large volumes of cylinders and want to cut the number of trips per shift.

Documents

How many cylinders does the MGC-XL48C hold?

The MGC-XL48C holds up to 48 small format medical gas cylinders in M7, M9, C, D or E sizes. It is the largest capacity model in the Pony Express medical cylinder cart family, built for facilities that want fewer trips per shift.

What is the difference between the MGC-XL48C and the smaller cylinder carts?

The XL48C carries 48 cylinders compared with 24, 32 or 40 on the smaller racks. The main difference is the size of the coated rack and how many cylinders move per trip.

Does the cylinder rack protect the cylinders?

Yes. The welded steel rack has a plasticized protective coating, so the cylinders do not scrape bare metal. They ride quieter through hallways and labs and stay in better condition.

How much weight can the MGC-XL48C move and how fast does it go?

The motorized platform is rated for up to 2,000 lb. A totally enclosed maintenance free transaxle drive moves the loaded cart at 0 to 3 mph with a thumb throttle, and slow mode caps speed at 1.5 mph for tight or crowded areas.

How far can the cart travel on a single charge?

The deep-cycle AGM batteries provide up to 10 miles of operation per charge. The onboard UL and cUL listed smart charger runs on standard 100 to 240 VAC wall power.

Can the MGC-XL48C handle ramps and thresholds?

Foam-filled never-flat tires roll across thresholds and ramps, and the cart holds its position on inclines up to 6 degrees thanks to regenerative braking and an automatic holding brake.

Is the MGC-XL48C made in the USA?

Yes. It is designed and manufactured in the USA by EK Tech, with a powder-coated welded steel frame.

What rules cover moving medical gas cylinders inside a facility?

As a general rule, OSHA 1910.101(b) requires in-plant handling, storage and use of compressed gas cylinders to follow CGA Pamphlet P-1. How cylinders are stored and secured in your building is set by your facility safety officer and local fire code, so have them review the cart and your routes before it goes into service.

Do operators need training to drive a motorized cart like this?

That is the employer's call. OSHA rule 1910.178 covers powered industrial trucks, including tractors and motorized hand trucks, and requires that only trained and authorized operators use them. Have your safety lead decide whether it applies to this cart and set training to match.
