Overview

Pony Express 2010 cylinder cart carrying a K size tank

The Pony Express 2010 from EK Tech is a motorized cylinder delivery cart that moves a single liquid gas cylinder or up to four K size cylinders. The quiet drive system, regenerative braking and tight turning radius let one operator deliver cylinders safely through hospitals, labs and fill plants.

The Pony Express 2010 is the first motorized cylinder delivery cart of its kind, built by Electro Kinetic Technologies to take the strain out of moving large gas cylinders. It carries a single liquid gas cylinder, often called a dewar, or up to four K size high pressure cylinders, and its powered drive does the pushing, pulling and turning that causes so many musculoskeletal injuries in gas handling work.

An ultra quiet drive system and large elastomer tread wheels move cylinders smoothly over thresholds, impediments and inclines. The motor wheel is linked directly to the tiller, which gives the cart a tight turning radius for crowded storerooms, hospital corridors and lab aisles. Despite the motorized platform, the footprint stays close to an equivalent manual cart, so it fits everywhere the old cart did.

Safety is engineered in at every level. Regenerative dynamic braking brings the cart to a controlled stop at any speed, an automatic brake prevents rollback on ramps, and a horn and emergency stop button sit at the operator station. The award winning ergonomic controller is IP 54 rated against dust and splashing water, and an automatic sleep mode conserves the battery between deliveries. The on board UL and CSA listed smart charger runs on any 100 to 240 VAC outlet, and a charge covers up to 10 miles of operation.

Hospitals use the 2010 to deliver oxygen and medical gases, labs and fill plants move acetylene, nitrogen and specialty gases, and manufacturers run it wherever heavy cylinders travel. Like every Pony Express cart it is designed and manufactured in the USA with a welded, powder coat painted frame and a 2 year warranty on the frame and drive system.

Documents

How many cylinders does the Pony Express 2010 carry?

The 2010 carries one large liquid gas cylinder, often called a dewar, or up to four K size high pressure cylinders. It is built for the big cylinders that are hardest to push, pull and turn by hand.

What is the difference between the 2010 and the MGC medical gas cylinder carts?

The MGC carts carry large racks of small format cylinders in M7, M9, C, D or E sizes, up to 48 at a time. The 2010 is built for the big cylinders those racks cannot take, a single liquid dewar or up to four K size cylinders, on a compact upright cart that steers through tight spaces.

Who uses the Pony Express 2010?

Hospitals use it to deliver oxygen and medical gases. Laboratories, fill plants and gas distributors move acetylene, nitrogen, specialty gases and liquid cylinders, and manufacturers handle welding and process gases. It is rated for industrial, medical and commercial use.

How far can the 2010 go on a charge?

A charge covers up to 10 miles of operation. The on board UL and CSA listed smart charger plugs into any 100 to 240 VAC outlet, and an automatic sleep mode saves battery power between deliveries.

Can the 2010 handle ramps and thresholds with a full load?

Yes. Large elastomer tread wheels roll smoothly over thresholds, small obstacles and inclines. An automatic brake engages the moment the operator releases the throttle, and regenerative dynamic braking gives a controlled stop at any speed, so the cart and its cylinders hold steady on a ramp.

How maneuverable is the Pony Express 2010?

The motor wheel is linked directly to the tiller, which gives the cart a tight turning radius, and the overall footprint is close to a manual cylinder cart. It works in storerooms, elevators and corridors where a larger cart would not fit.

How fast does the 2010 go, and what safety controls does it have?

Speed is variable from 0 to 3 mph. The drive is ultra quiet for hospital corridors. The operator station has a horn and an emergency stop button, and the controller is IP54 rated against dust and splashing water.

What comes with the Pony Express 2010?
  • The complete motorized cylinder delivery cart, assembled and tested at the factory
  • The on board smart charging system for any 100 to 240 VAC outlet
  • Operator documentation for daily use and charging
Where is the Pony Express 2010 made?

It is designed and manufactured in the USA by Electro Kinetic Technologies in Germantown, Wisconsin, with a welded steel frame in a powder coat painted finish.

Does the 2010 make our facility compliant with gas cylinder rules?

No cart can do that on its own. As a general rule, OSHA 1910.101(b) requires in-plant handling, storage and use of compressed gas cylinders to follow CGA Pamphlet P-1, and your facility safety officer and local fire code set the storage rules. Check your cylinder handling procedures with them when you add the 2010 to your workflow.
