Quick Overview

EK Tech transfer carts move the loads that normally need a forklift or an overhead crane. Electro Kinetic Technologies builds motorized rail carts and steerable trackless transfer carts that carry heavy and oversized material up to 40,000 lb across a plant floor under full operator control, with the standard capacity range running from 5,000 to 30,000 lb. Customers use them for industrial pipe, dies, metal coils, structural steel, heavy equipment, components and finished assemblies.

There are two ways to build the cart. Rail carts run on single or dual rail guidance with V-groove or flanged steel wheels, and they can be supplied as mother and daughter pairs when the load is very long. Steerable carts stay trackless on polyurethane or rubber wheels and turn tightly enough to work in crowded aisles. Deck sizes are customized to your exact requirements on both types, and a vertical lift can be added so material arrives at the height the next station needs.

Drive and steering both use AC induction motors under AC Vector Power control, which holds maximum power and torque across the whole speed range instead of falling away like a DC drive. That gives precise control down to 0.1 mph, with a variable range of 0.1 to 1.5 mph or 0.1 to 3 mph and custom ranges available by request. ReGen braking feeds energy back to the pack, swappable 48 VDC AGM or lithium iron phosphate batteries keep around the clock operations running, and the IP66 charger accepts 85 to 270 VAC single phase power under UL, cUL and CSA safety standards.

Controls are built around the operator, with an intuitive tiller on a mast or a wireless joystick, and safety options add an oscillating horn and lights during movement plus perimeter safety scanners. Thermal sensors inside the motor let the controller protect it in harsh conditions, and the battery monitor warns the operator by sight and sound before a pack runs down, with Bluetooth so a whole fleet can be checked from a phone. Every transfer cart is engineered to order, so we quote it. If your loads are lighter, look at the Pony Express AC Vector platform cart or the Pony Express 1031 platform cart.

Every line EK Tech builds to order sits on one page, our custom engineered motorized carts.

How much can an EK Tech transfer cart move?

EK Tech rates the transfer cart line to move any heavy load up to 40,000 lb, and the published specification range for the line runs from 5,000 to 30,000 lb. Tell us the weight, the length and the path the load has to travel and the factory engineering team confirms the build that carries it.

What is the difference between a rail cart and a steerable transfer cart?

A rail cart follows single or dual rail guidance on V-groove or flanged steel wheels, which suits a fixed route and very long material. Mother and daughter pairs handle loads that overhang one cart. A steerable cart is trackless on polyurethane or rubber wheels with a tight turning radius, so it goes anywhere on the floor and needs no track work.

What powers an EK Tech transfer cart and how is it charged?

AC induction traction and steering motors run under AC Vector Power control from a swappable 48 VDC AGM or lithium iron phosphate pack. ReGen braking returns energy to the pack, and the IP66 charger works on 85 to 270 VAC single phase at 50 or 60 Hz. Swappable packs mean a fresh battery goes in when a shift ends instead of the cart waiting on a charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

How heavy a load can a Pony Express transfer cart carry?

EK Tech builds this line to move heavy loads up to 40,000 lb, and the published specification range for the line is 5,000 to 30,000 lb. Because every cart is engineered around one job, the honest answer is that we take your load weight, load length and floor conditions to the factory and come back with a build and a price.

Do I need to install rails in my plant?

Only if you want them. Rail carts run on single or dual rail guidance and suit a fixed route with very long or awkward material. Steerable carts are trackless, ride on polyurethane or rubber tires and turn tightly, so they need no floor work at all. We help you pick between the two before anything is quoted.

How slowly can the cart move a heavy load?

Speed control goes down to 0.1 mph. The variable speed range is 0.1 to 1.5 mph or 0.1 to 3 mph depending on how the cart is set up, and EK Tech will build a custom range on request. AC Vector Power keeps full torque available at those crawl speeds, which is what lets an operator inch a coil or a die into place.

Can the cart lift or tilt the load as well as move it?

Yes. Hydraulic vertical lifts can be added to position material, and custom deck configurations include lift, tilt and rotate capability along with built in scales. Tell us what the receiving station needs and the deck gets built to suit.

How do I buy a custom transfer cart?
