Quick Overview

A motorized die cart takes the worst job in a press shop away from your people. These self propelled carts from Electro Kinetic Technologies lift and transport heavy dies under power, and they can be fitted with roller conveyor or ball transfer tops so a die slides on and off the bolster instead of being dragged, pried or slung from a crane. That protects backs and hands from the strains and sprains that die handling causes, and it protects the dies themselves from the knocks that happen every time one is moved by hand.

EK Tech builds each die cart as a custom unit based on standard designs, which keeps the cost sensible while still fitting your presses. Four things get set at the start. Capacity, the maximum and minimum lift height above the floor, the table size, and the size of the conveyor or ball transfer surface on top. EK Tech lists motorized die carts up to 6,000 lb, and capacities are scalable, so the first thing we need from you is the weight and footprint of your heaviest die.

Safety and control choices come next. Accordion skirting can close off the lift mechanism, safety edging guards pinch points, and collision detection watches for anything that enters the safe zone of travel. Controls can be side mounted, on a pendant, at dual stations or fully wireless, and a foot control switch frees both hands at the press. An on board scale can be fitted so the payload of the cart is never exceeded, and a magnetic sensor docking system lines the cart up to the press the same way every time.

Frames are welded steel, with stainless steel and aluminum available for wash down or clean areas, and NEMA or IP rated enclosures protect the electronics in harsh shops. Dual independent center wheel drive systems are available where a heavy payload also needs sharp maneuvering, an automatic retractable drive turns the cart into a towable trailer, and lithium iron phosphate battery technology is available where charging time matters. Every die cart is engineered to order, so we quote it. For lighter lifting work see the Pony Express 1052 scissor lift cart and the Pony Express 1050-EL, and for the heaviest die sets see the Pony Express AC Vector cart.

Compare die carts with the rest of the engineered to order carts EK Tech builds.

How heavy a die can the cart carry?

EK Tech lists motorized die carts up to 6,000 lb and describes the payload capacity as scalable, so heavier builds are engineered on request. Give us the weight and footprint of your heaviest die along with the press it serves and the factory confirms the capacity for your build.

What goes on top of the die cart?

A roller conveyor top or a ball transfer top, sized as part of your build, so a die can be pushed across from the cart to the bolster and back without being lifted. Both are quoted as part of the cart rather than added later, because the top height and the lift range have to work together.

What keeps operators safe around a powered die cart?

Accordion skirting closes the lift mechanism, safety edging guards pinch points, and collision detection systems watch for obstacles that violate the safe zone of travel. A foot control switch keeps both hands free at the press, and an on board scale stops anyone loading past the rating of the cart.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Pony Express die cart lift?

EK Tech lists motorized die carts up to 6,000 lb and builds capacity to order, so heavier work is engineered on request. Send us the weight of your heaviest die, the footprint it sits on and the bolster height at the press and we come back with a configuration and a price.

Can the cart transfer a die onto the press without a crane?

That is the point of the roller conveyor and ball transfer tops. The cart raises the die to bolster height and the operator slides it across instead of lifting it. A magnetic sensor docking system can be added so the cart lines up to the same spot every time.

What lift height can I get?

The maximum and minimum lift height above the floor are both set when the cart is engineered, because they depend on your bolster height and how low the cart has to sit to load. EK Tech does not publish a fixed range for the custom die cart line, so we confirm the travel with the factory for your presses.

Can it be built for a wash down or clean area?

Yes. Stainless steel and aluminum frames are available, and NEMA or IP rated enclosures protect the electronics. Tell us what the area demands and we specify the frame and enclosure to match.

How do I get a price on a custom die cart?

Call us toll free at 1-888-233-5563 or use our contact form with your die weight, die size, bolster height and the aisle the cart has to work in. We take it to the EK Tech engineering team in Germantown Wisconsin and come back with a written quote.

How to Purchase & What's Included

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the Pony Express Custom Die Cart?

Material handling equipment like the Pony Express Custom Die Cart does not meet the medical device rules that Medicare and Medicaid use, so it does not qualify for coverage. We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.
