Quick Overview

The Pony Express Industrial Motorized Utility Cart is the heavy end of the Electro Kinetic Technologies utility cart range, built for loads of 2,000 pounds and up. It exists to remove the injuries caused by the push and pull forces of manual carts, in warehouses, manufacturing areas and anywhere an added shelf at a convenient height makes a materials run easier. The operator walks behind and the drive system carries the load.

Every cart in this line is engineered to order. Usable deck length, usable deck width, shelf height and weight capacity are all built to suit the application, and the shelf or shelves are often shaped around one specific customer load or fixture. What stays the same is the platform height of 11.5 in off the floor, an ergonomic handle set 40 in (1016 mm) off the floor with thumb wheel controls, and a welded frame with powder coat paint. A non-skid durable surface is available on the platform and the shelf to keep cargo from sliding.

Ergonomic hand controls give variable speed forward and reverse from 0 to 3 miles per hour in fast mode and 0 to 1.5 miles per hour in slow mode. Dead man operation brings the unit to a controlled stop when the operator takes their hands off the controls, an automatic holding brake stops the cart moving on an incline when parked, and a horn, an emergency belly button stop switch and removable keyed power complete the standard safety package. Deep cycle AGM batteries last over two times as long as standard AGM batteries and feed a UL, cUL and CE listed on board smart charging system, good for up to 10 miles of operation on a single charge.

Builds already in service include a custom double deck cart at 3,000 lb capacity on a 35 in by 52 in deck, a stock picking cart at 2,000 lb capacity, a core sample cart and a custom foundry cart. Tell us what you move, how heavy it is and what it sits on, and we will get the configuration and the price back from the factory. For the standard 1,500 lb office and light assembly version see the Pony Express office and light assembly utility cart, for the ready built stock picking version see the Pony Express motorized stock picking cart, and for a flat deck with no shelving see the Pony Express 1031 platform carts.

How much will an industrial utility cart carry?

These carts start at 2,000 pounds and go up from there, with the weight capacity built to suit the application. A custom double deck cart already in service is rated at 3,000 lb on a 35 in by 52 in deck, and a stock picking build runs at 2,000 lb. Tell us your load and the factory sizes the frame and drive to it.

How fast does it travel and how far on a charge?

Ergonomic hand controls give variable speed forward and reverse, 0 to 3 miles per hour in fast mode and 0 to 1.5 miles per hour in slow mode. Deep cycle AGM batteries and the on board smart charging system give up to 10 miles of operation on a single charge.

What stops the cart running away on a slope?

Dead man operation brings the unit to a controlled stop the moment the operator takes their hands off the controls, and an automatic holding brake prevents the cart moving on inclines when it is parked. A horn, an emergency belly button stop switch and keyed power on and off round out the standard safety package.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this different from the standard Pony Express utility carts?

The office, commercial and light assembly carts are standard models rated at 1,500 lb with fixed deck sizes. These industrial carts start at 2,000 pounds and go up, and they very often carry custom features beyond the capacity, with the deck and shelves shaped to one particular load or work area.

What kinds of builds has EK Tech already made?

Examples include a custom double deck cart at 3,000 lb capacity with a 35 in by 52 in deck, a stock picking cart at 2,000 lb capacity, a core sample cart and a custom foundry cart. If one of those is close to your job, say so and we will start the quote from there.

Can the shelf be built around our parts or fixtures?

Yes. The shelf or shelves can take a form designed to suit a specific customer load, and shelf height, deck length and deck width are all built to suit the application. Additional features get added where they buy you safety or productivity.

How long does a charge last and what outlet does it need?

The deep cycle AGM batteries give up to 10 miles of operation on a single charge, and the on board smart charging system is UL, cUL and CE listed and runs on 120 or 240 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz. An illuminated battery charge indicator shows where the pack stands.
