Overview

Porto Mobility Ranger SpacePro XL folding power wheelchair, side view facing right

The Ranger SpacePro XL takes the carbon fiber SpacePro frame and widens the seat to 21 in between the armrests for riders who need more room across the hips. It carries up to 400 lbs, weighs 43 lbs without batteries and 50 lbs with them, and runs up to 20 miles at speeds up to 5 mph.

The XL is the middle size of the SpacePro family. Its seat measures 21 in between the armrests, with a 20 in wide cushion, a 17 in depth and a 20 in seat height, and the backrest stands 19.3 in tall. The 400 lb weight rating and the carbon fiber frame carry over from the standard SpacePro.

Two 250W motors drive the rear wheels, and two 24V 6Ah lithium batteries give a range of up to 20 miles. The chair weighs 43 lbs with the batteries out and 50 lbs with them in. It folds to 13 x 31 in, turns in a 31 in radius and is rated for grades up to 25 degrees.

Key Features

  • 21 in seat width between the armrests, 2 in wider than the standard SpacePro
  • 20 in cushion width, 17 in seat depth and 20 in seat height
  • Carries riders up to 400 lbs on a carbon fiber frame
  • Weighs 43 lbs without batteries and 50 lbs with them
  • Up to 20 miles of range on two 24V 6Ah lithium batteries
  • Two 250W rear motors with a 5 mph top speed
  • Folds to 13 x 31 in
  • Intelligent electromagnetic brakes with regenerative braking

Who the SpacePro XL Suits

Pick the XL if the 19 in seat on the standard SpacePro feels tight but you still want a chair that folds to the same 13 x 31 in package. Riders who need a full 23 in of seat width should look at the SpacePro XXL, which keeps the same 400 lb rating.

How It Compares

The SpacePro, XL and XXL differ mainly in seat width, at 19, 21 and 23 in between the armrests. Choose by measuring across your hips while seated and adding a little room for clothing. The SpacePro Recliner adds a backrest that reclines to 130 degrees.

Warranty

What does the Ranger SpacePro XL warranty cover?

The Ranger SpacePro XL is covered by Porto Mobility's standard warranty, since Porto does not list separate terms for this model. Those standard terms cover the frame for 3 years and the electronics and batteries for 1 year.

Porto does not cover damage from abuse, such as taking it through deep water or dropping it. When a covered part fails, Porto sends the replacement part and connects you with a local service provider for the repair. If something goes wrong, contact us first and we will take the claim to Porto's technical team for you.

How wide is the Ranger SpacePro XL seat?

Porto lists 21 in between the armrests and a 20 in seat cushion, with a seat depth of 17 in and a seat height of 20 in. The chair measures 40 x 24 x 37 in (L x W x H) with the footrest open.

What is the difference between the Ranger SpacePro XL and XXL?

Both share the carbon fiber frame that weighs 43 lbs without batteries, the 400 lb rating and range of up to 20 miles. The XL has 21 in between the armrests and is 24 in wide overall, while the XXL has 23 in and is 25.5 in wide. Both fold to 13 x 31 in.

Can I take the Ranger SpacePro XL on a plane?

The SpacePro XL runs on two 24V 6Ah batteries of 144 watt hours each. Porto makes no airline statement for this model, so quote that figure to your airline and confirm before you book.

How do I order the Ranger SpacePro XL?

Add it to your cart on this page and check out, which takes a few minutes. You can pay in full or choose Klarna to spread the cost over monthly payments.

Can I order the Ranger SpacePro XL over the phone?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563 and we will place the order with you. All we need is your payment method and your shipping address. Extra batteries and other Porto accessories can be added to a phone order.

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the Ranger SpacePro XL?

We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly. Some private plans will reimburse you after you buy, so it is worth calling your insurer to ask. If they say yes, we are happy to provide an invoice and proof of purchase so you can file for reimbursement.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.

What comes with the Ranger SpacePro XL?

Call us before you buy and we will confirm exactly what comes in the box.

How long until my Ranger SpacePro XL arrives?

The Ranger SpacePro XL ships from Porto Mobility. Porto quotes delivery in about 1 to 5 business days for models in stock, and we email you the expected ship date after you order. If you need it by a certain day, call us before you buy and we will check the timing.

Will I get tracking?

Yes. As soon as your order ships we email you a tracking link so you can follow it to your door.

Can I return the Ranger SpacePro XL?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, as long as it comes back in new condition in its original boxes with all of its parts. A 15% restocking fee applies. You prepay the return shipping, and the original shipping charges are not refunded, so keep the boxes until you are sure. Items sold as open box cannot be returned.

Warranty problems are handled separately and do not count as a return. Please read the full returns policy for the details.

How do I fold the SpacePro XL?

The XL folds to the same 13 x 31 in as the standard SpacePro. Lift out the two 3 lb batteries first and the chair drops from 50 lbs to 43 lbs. Call us if you would like us to walk you through the fold before your first trip.

How does the XL drive?

Two 250W motors drive and steer through the rear wheels, with a top speed of 5 mph. The brakes are electromagnetic with regenerative braking, and Porto rates the chair for grades up to 25 degrees. Take any slope slowly and straight on, and keep the chair out of rain and standing water, since Porto publishes no water resistance rating.

How far will it go on a charge?

Porto rates the XL at up to 20 miles on its two 24V 6Ah lithium batteries. Heavier loads, hills and cold weather shorten that, so plan longer days with some range in reserve. Extra batteries are available by phone.

Will it fit in my car?

Folded, the XL measures 13 x 31 in, the same as the narrower SpacePro. Measure your trunk or cargo area before you order.

Can I fly with it?

Each battery is a 24V 6Ah lithium pack weighing 3 lbs. Airlines and cruise lines each set their own rules for lithium mobility batteries, so give them those figures and confirm before you book.

Is Porto Mobility a good brand?

Porto Mobility designs and sells folding power wheelchairs, lightweight folding mobility scooters and portable chair lifts. Its Ranger chairs fold small enough for a car trunk or SUV cargo area, on carbon fiber or aluminum alloy frames depending on the model, and Porto publishes a weight capacity for each chair, scooter and lift.

Porto's standard warranty covers the frame for 3 years and the electronics and batteries for 1 year, and some models carry different terms. When a covered part fails, Porto sends the replacement part and connects you with a local service provider. As an authorized dealer we stay your first point of contact and take the claim to Porto's technical team for you.

How is my chair delivered?

Delivery to your curb is free. Check the packaging and the chair before you sign for it, and call 1-888-233-5563 if anything looks wrong.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Choose Klarna at checkout to pay over time. See how financing works.

Can I talk to someone before I buy?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563. Real people answer, business hours and weekends.
