Overview

Porto Mobility Ranger The Beast folding power wheelchair, front frame and casters from above on a concrete floor

Ranger The Beast is a heavy duty folding power wheelchair rated for 500 lbs. Dual 400W brushless motors reach up to 6 mph, two 24V 20Ah lithium batteries cover up to 20 miles, and it rides on pneumatic tires with 6 point suspension. The frame weighs 90 lbs without batteries.

The Beast pairs a 23 in wide seat with a 4 in cushion and a 23 in seat height. The open chair is 26.5 in wide across the armrests and 38 in long with the footrest closed, or 47 in with it open. It folds to 26.5 x 21 x 32.8 in, and the armrests come off for side transfers.

Two 400W brushless motors run through a 50 amp controller with regenerative braking. Each 24V 20Ah lithium battery weighs 7 lbs, and the pair recharges in about 2 hours with the 5A charger. A third battery, available by phone, extends the range to up to 30 miles.

Who The Beast Suits

The Beast is for a rider up to 500 lbs who wants a wide seat and more speed in a chair that still folds. It rides on air filled tires with 6 point suspension, where the Magnum, Discovery and Maestro chairs use solid tires. At 90 lbs without batteries, loading it takes a ramp, a vehicle lift or a helper.

How It Compares

Against the Ranger Magnum, The Beast gives up capacity at 500 lbs against 660 and comes in one seat size. In return it is faster at up to 6 mph and uses 400W motors in place of 350W. Porto rates it to climb up to 25 degrees where the Magnum is rated for 8, and it recharges in about 2 hours against about 12.

Warranty

What does the Ranger The Beast warranty cover?

Porto covers The Beast frame for 4 years and the motor for 2 years. The controller and the batteries are covered for 1 year.

Porto does not cover damage from abuse, such as taking it through deep water or dropping it. How much weight can Ranger The Beast hold?

Porto rates The Beast for riders up to 500 lbs, on a 23 in seat with a 4 in cushion. The chair weighs 90 lbs without batteries, and each of its two batteries adds 7 lbs.

Does Ranger The Beast fold?

The Beast folds to 26.5 x 21 x 32.8 in (L x W x H). At 90 lbs before the batteries go in, it needs a ramp, a helper or a vehicle lift, and Porto rates its Stron lift for The Beast.

Can I take Ranger The Beast on a plane?

Each battery is rated 24V and 20Ah, which works out to 480 watt hours. Porto's listing makes no airline statement for The Beast, so ask your airline whether it accepts batteries of that size before you book.

How do I order the Ranger The Beast?

Add it to your cart on this page and check out, which takes a few minutes. You can pay in full or choose Klarna to spread the cost over monthly payments.

Can I order the Ranger The Beast over the phone?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563 and we will place the order with you. All we need is your payment method and your shipping address. Extra batteries and other Porto accessories can be added to a phone order.

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the Ranger The Beast?

We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly. Some private plans will reimburse you after you buy, so it is worth calling your insurer to ask. If they say yes, we are happy to provide an invoice and proof of purchase so you can file for reimbursement.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.

What comes with the Ranger The Beast?

Call us before you buy and we will confirm exactly what comes in the box.

How long until my Ranger The Beast arrives?

The Ranger The Beast ships from Porto Mobility. Porto quotes delivery in about 1 to 5 business days for models in stock, and we email you the expected ship date after you order. If you need it by a certain day, call us before you buy and we will check the timing.

Will I get tracking?

Yes. As soon as your order ships we email you a tracking link so you can follow it to your door.

Can I return the Ranger The Beast?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, as long as it comes back in new condition in its original boxes with all of its parts. A 15% restocking fee applies. You prepay the return shipping, and the original shipping charges are not refunded, so keep the boxes until you are sure. Items sold as open box cannot be returned.

Warranty problems are handled separately and do not count as a return. Please read the full returns policy for the details.

How does The Beast fold?

Folded, it measures 26.5 x 21 x 32.8 in. Take out the two 7 lb batteries first so you are moving the 90 lb frame on its own, and plan on a ramp, a lift or a second person to load it. We can walk you through the fold by phone.

How do the controls work?

The joystick mounts on the left armrest, the right armrest or the backrest, so a caregiver can drive from behind when needed. Regenerative brakes slow the chair as you ease off the stick.

How long does charging take?

About 2 hours with the 5A charger. Two batteries give up to 20 miles, and a third battery, available by phone, takes that to up to 30 miles.

Where can I ride The Beast?

Porto rates it for slopes up to 25 degrees with 3.5 in of ground clearance. Take any slope slowly and straight on, never across it. The pneumatic tires and 6 point suspension soften bumps on sidewalks and paths. Check tire pressure regularly, since air filled tires can lose pressure or puncture. Porto does not publish a water resistance rating, so keep the chair out of rain and standing water.

Will it fit in my vehicle?

Folded, The Beast measures 26.5 x 21 x 32.8 in and weighs 90 lbs without batteries. Plan on a van or SUV with a ramp or a vehicle lift such as the Porto Stron, which Porto rates for The Beast. Call us and we can talk through loading options for your vehicle.

Can I fly with it?

Porto's listing for The Beast does not describe the batteries as airline compliant. Each is a 24V 20Ah lithium pack. Give your airline those figures and confirm their rules well before you book.

Is Porto Mobility a good brand?

Porto Mobility designs and sells folding power wheelchairs, lightweight folding mobility scooters and portable chair lifts. Its Ranger chairs fold small enough for a car trunk or SUV cargo area, on carbon fiber or aluminum alloy frames depending on the model, and Porto publishes a weight capacity for each chair, scooter and lift.

Porto's standard warranty covers the frame for 3 years and the electronics and batteries for 1 year, and some models carry different terms. When a covered part fails, Porto sends the replacement part and connects you with a local service provider. As an authorized dealer we stay your first point of contact and take the claim to Porto's technical team for you.

How is my chair delivered?

Delivery to your curb is free. Check the packaging and the chair before you sign for it, and call 1-888-233-5563 if anything looks wrong.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Choose Klarna at checkout to pay over time. See how financing works.

Can I talk to someone before I buy?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563. Real people answer, business hours and weekends.
