Quick Overview

The Pony Express 1061 is a compact walk behind electric tugger that hitches to the carts you already own and pulls loads up to 1,500 lb on a flat surface. Electro Kinetic Technologies builds it in Germantown Wisconsin for healthcare, manufacturing, entertainment, retail, pharmaceutical, food and beverage and linen and laundry work, wherever one person has to move a loaded cart down a corridor without shoving it by hand.

The body is 24.5 inches wide, so it threads through tight hallways, corridors and manufacturing aisles. Hitch reach adjusts from 39 to 54 inches to suit carts of different lengths, and the award winning ergonomic tiller head sets to the right height for each operator with thumb wheel controls for speed and direction. The 1061 uses the exchangeable Pony Express hitching and hook system, and when a cart needs something different the EK Tech engineering team designs the hitch or hook to match it.

Power comes from a 35 Ah deep cycle AGM pack that gives 8 hours of operation and recharges in approximately 4 hours from the internal UL, cUL and CE listed smart charger on any 120 or 240 VAC outlet. Deep cycle AGM cells last over two times as long as standard AGM batteries, and an illuminated charge indicator on the control head shows the state of charge at a glance. Two speed ranges cover 0 to 1.5 mph on the low setting and 0 to 3.0 mph on the high setting, and the incline rating is 30 degrees with de-rated load capacity.

Safety sits in the controls. Dead man operation brings the unit to a controlled stop the moment the operator takes their hands off, an emergency belly button switch is within thumb reach, an operator controlled 68 dB horn warns people ahead, and an automatic holding brake keeps a parked cart from moving on an incline. Running noise stays under 65 dBA, so the 1061 belongs on a hospital floor as much as on a plant floor. Need more pull? The Pony Express 1061-HD moves 2,000 lb and the Pony Express 1065 moves 5,000 lb.

How fast does the Pony Express 1061 go?

The variable speed drive runs 0 to 1.5 mph on the low setting and 0 to 3.0 mph on the high setting, forward and reverse from the thumb wheel. High speed matches a brisk walk and low speed suits crowded corridors. Let go of the control and dead man operation brings the tugger to a controlled stop.

How long does the Pony Express 1061 run on a charge?

The 35 Ah deep cycle AGM pack gives 8 hours of operation and recharges in approximately 4 hours. The charger is built in and accepts 120 or 240 VAC at 47 to 63 Hz, so any outlet on the floor works, and the illuminated indicator shows the state of charge while it fills.

How much can the Pony Express 1061 pull?

It is rated for 1,500 lb on a flat surface, with an incline rating of 30 degrees at a de-rated load. Real pull also depends on your casters and your floor surface, so tell us what the cart weighs and what it rolls on and we will confirm the model with the factory.

Options & Upgrades

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 1061 and the 1061-HD?

Both share the same compact 24.5 inch wide body and the same adjustable tiller head. The 1061 is rated for loads up to 1,500 lb and the 1061-HD is the more powerful version rated up to 2,000 lb. If your heaviest cart sits close to 1,500 lb, step up to the 1061-HD and keep the margin.

Will the 1061 hitch to the carts we already have?

In most cases yes. The 1061 uses the exchangeable Pony Express hitching and hook system that runs across the tugger line, so one tugger can serve carts of several shapes. When a cart needs something different the EK Tech engineering team designs a custom hitch or hook for it. Send us photos and dimensions of your carts and we will spec it.

Can the 1061 handle ramps and inclines?

It carries an incline rating of 30 degrees with de-rated load capacity, and the automatic holding brake prevents the cart from moving on an incline when it is parked. An electromagnetic parking brake holds the tugger itself. Tell us the grade of your ramps when you ask for a quote so we can check your load against it.

What keeps an operator safe with the 1061?

Dead man operation stops the unit the moment hands come off the controls, an emergency belly button switch sits on the control head, an operator controlled 68 dB horn warns people ahead, and the automatic holding brake keeps a parked load still on a slope. The drive wheel is puncture proof and non-marking, and running noise stays under 65 dBA.

Should we choose AGM or lithium?

The 1061 with its AGM pack is the straightforward choice for a single shift, because it recharges overnight in approximately 4 hours. If you run around the clock and cannot park a tugger to charge, look at a lithium version with a hot swappable battery pack such as the Pony Express 1061-HD Lithium. Call us and we will work out which one fits your shift pattern.

Is EK Tech a Good Brand?

Electro Kinetic Technologies, known as EK Tech, designs and builds its ergonomic material handling equipment in Germantown Wisconsin.
