Overview

Porto Mobility Ranger Dorsia Caregiver power wheelchair, right facing side view

The caregiver version of the Porto Mobility Ranger Dorsia is set up for an attendant to drive the chair from behind. It shares the standard Dorsia's 30 lb weight without battery, 300 lb capacity and 15 mile range, and it folds to 11 x 24.4 x 30.5 in for the car.

This Dorsia is set up for a caregiver to do the driving from behind the chair. It suits a rider who would rather not drive, and it lets a family member steer through stores, airports and appointments.

Underneath it is the same carbon fiber chair as the standard Dorsia. The T700 carbon frame weighs 30 lbs before the 3 lb battery goes in, two 180W brushless motors drive the rear wheels, and one 24V 12Ah semi solid lithium battery gives up to 15 miles at 4 mph.

Key Features

  • Caregiver control version for an attendant to drive from behind
  • Weighs 30 lbs without the battery, which adds 3 lbs
  • Carries up to 300 lbs
  • Travels up to 15 miles per charge at up to 4 mph
  • 19.7 in wide seat that is 18.5 in deep
  • Folds to 11 x 24.4 x 30.5 in
  • Turns in a 27.6 in radius
  • Intelligent electromagnetic brake

Caregiver Control

Porto describes this model as the caregiver control version of the Dorsia and does not publish the control layout in detail. Call us before you order and we will confirm with Porto where the caregiver control mounts and whether the rider can drive as well.

How It Compares

Mechanically this chair matches the standard Ranger Dorsia, with the same frame, motors, battery and folded size. Pick this version when a caregiver will do most of the driving. Pick the standard Dorsia when the rider will drive most of the time and a companion only needs to take over now and then.

Warranty

What does the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver warranty cover?

The Ranger Dorsia Caregiver is covered by Porto Mobility's standard warranty, since Porto does not list separate terms for this model. Those standard terms cover the frame for 3 years and the electronics and batteries for 1 year.

Porto does not cover damage from abuse, such as taking it through deep water or dropping it. When a covered part fails, Porto sends the replacement part and connects you with a local service provider for the repair. If something goes wrong, contact us first and we will take the claim to Porto's technical team for you.

What is the difference between the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver and the standard Dorsia?

Porto lists the same carbon fiber frame, battery and measurements for both chairs. The Dorsia Caregiver is Porto's caregiver control version, while the standard Dorsia has rider control plus a remote a companion can use. Porto does not publish the exact control layout of the caregiver version, so we confirm it with Porto for you before you order.

What battery does the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver use and how long does it take to charge?

It runs on one 24V 12Ah semi solid lithium battery that weighs 3 lbs. Porto lists a charging time of 6 hours and rates the chair for up to 15 miles per charge.

Can I take the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver on a plane?

The battery is rated 24V and 12Ah, which works out to 288 watt hours. Porto's listing makes no airline statement for this chair, and each airline sets its own limits for mobility aid batteries, so give your airline that figure and confirm it is accepted before you book.

How do I order the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver?

Add it to your cart on this page and check out, which takes a few minutes. You can pay in full or choose Klarna to spread the cost over monthly payments.

Can I order the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver over the phone?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563 and we will place the order with you. All we need is your payment method and your shipping address. Extra batteries and other Porto accessories can be added to a phone order.

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver?

We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly. Some private plans will reimburse you after you buy, so it is worth calling your insurer to ask. If they say yes, we are happy to provide an invoice and proof of purchase so you can file for reimbursement.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.

What comes with the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver?

Call us before you buy and we will confirm exactly what comes in the box.

How long until my Ranger Dorsia Caregiver arrives?

The Ranger Dorsia Caregiver ships from Porto Mobility. Porto quotes delivery in about 1 to 5 business days for models in stock, and we email you the expected ship date after you order. If you need it by a certain day, call us before you buy and we will check the timing.

Will I get tracking?

Yes. As soon as your order ships we email you a tracking link so you can follow it to your door.

Can I return the Ranger Dorsia Caregiver?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, as long as it comes back in new condition in its original boxes with all of its parts. A 15% restocking fee applies. You prepay the return shipping, and the original shipping charges are not refunded, so keep the boxes until you are sure. Items sold as open box cannot be returned.

Warranty problems are handled separately and do not count as a return. Please read the full returns policy for the details.

How does the caregiver drive the chair?

The caregiver steers from behind using the attendant control, with the chair's top speed set at 4 mph. The intelligent electromagnetic brake holds the chair whenever it stops, which matters on slopes and at curb cuts. Porto rates the Dorsia for slopes of 8 to 12 degrees, so treat 8 degrees as the limit, and keep the chair out of rain and standing water, since Porto publishes no water resistance rating.

How do I fold the chair?

Lift out the 3 lb battery, then fold the chair to 11 x 24.4 x 30.5 in. The folded frame weighs 30 lbs. We can walk you through the fold by phone when it arrives.

How do I charge the battery?

One 24V 12Ah semi solid lithium battery powers the chair and takes about 6 hours to charge, so plugging it in overnight readies it for the next day. Extra batteries are available by phone.

Will it fit in my car?

Folded, it measures 11 x 24.4 x 30.5 in, slim enough to stand upright in many trunks. The caregiver can lift the 30 lb frame and the 3 lb battery separately, or ask us about a Porto lift for the whole 33 lb chair.

Can I fly with it?

Airlines each set their own rules for mobility devices and lithium batteries. Call your airline with the battery details before you book, and we can give you those details by phone.

Is Porto Mobility a good brand?

Porto Mobility designs and sells folding power wheelchairs, lightweight folding mobility scooters and portable chair lifts. Its Ranger chairs fold small enough for a car trunk or SUV cargo area, on carbon fiber or aluminum alloy frames depending on the model, and Porto publishes a weight capacity for each chair, scooter and lift.

Porto's standard warranty covers the frame for 3 years and the electronics and batteries for 1 year, and some models carry different terms. When a covered part fails, Porto sends the replacement part and connects you with a local service provider. As an authorized dealer we stay your first point of contact and take the claim to Porto's technical team for you.

How is my chair delivered?

Delivery to your curb is free. Check the packaging and the chair before you sign for it, and call 1-888-233-5563 if anything looks wrong.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Choose Klarna at checkout to pay over time. See how financing works.

Can I talk to someone before I buy?

Yes. Call 1-888-233-5563. Real people answer, business hours and weekends.
