How fast does the EWheels EW-18 go?

At full speed, you can reach up to 15 mph.

EWheels are known for being the fastest on the mobility scooter market and this is their strongest selling point.

How long do the EWheels EW-18 batteries last per charge? How many years of use can I get out of the batteries?

Battery running time per charge is measured in miles as opposed to time i.e. how many miles can a fully charged set of batteries take the scooter?

The answer depends on the user’s weight as well as the kind of terrain the scooter is operated upon.

Please take these manufacturer figures with a grain of salt, bearing in mind manufacturers may test their scooters in optimum conditions you won’t find in real life.

For a EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter, the batteries last: 20 miles.

The lifetime of your EWheels EW-18 batteries is approximately 2 years, but very much depends on how much you use your scooter and whether you take good care of your batteries.

The cost of replacing a set of EWheels EW-18 batteries is approximately $239

What kind of batteries are used in the EWheels EW-18?

This mobility scooter uses sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries. These batteries are maintenance free, meaning you don’t need to add water to them or anything like that.

They happily stay under their shroud for the duration of their lifetime and you shouldn’t need to do anything to them at all.

Lithium-ion batteries are not used, primarily due to cost. With batteries expiring after 2-3 years, the cost of replacing lithium batteries for a machine this size would run into several thousand dollars, vs. gel-cell which is more around the $500 mark.

How much weight can the EWheels EW-18 carry?

The weight capacity of the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter is 300 lbs.

What kind of ground clearance does the EWheels EW-18 have? Is it good for paths and trails?

The EWheels EW-18 has 4.25 inches of ground clearance. It will cope on grass, gravel and dirt paths, but there are other mobility scooters which would perform better in this area.

Explore our all-terrain mobility scooter collection.

How big is the EWheels EW-18? Will it fit indoors and how sharp does it turn?

The EWheels EW-18 is perfect for both indoors and outdoors. This scooter has a tight turning radius and is fine for use inside houses and apartments.

The turning radius of the EWheels EW-18 scooter is 22”.

How to Purchase & What's Included

Why are mobility scooters so expensive?

We sell all our scooters at the minimum price (MAP) the manufacturer allows us to advertise for. If we advertise for cheaper, we could be prosecuted. This means we are cheaper or at the same price as all dealers complying with the rules. If you find another site selling for cheaper, we will price match, so long as they are within MAP. Scooters can be expensive because of the following reasons: The recent skyrocketing of shipping prices, coupled with rising inflation, have made these scooters significantly more expensive than they were, say one year ago.

Does Medicare/Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the EWheels EW-18?

Many heavy-duty/recreational mobility scooters do not qualify as medical devices under Medicare/Medicaid and private insurance strict rules. Though you might be disabled and using the device in a full medical sense, Medicare/Medicaid and private insurance seem to want to save as much money as they can, and do so by making the rules about which models qualify very strict. You might have spent significant time trying to find a Medicare/Medicaid provider online, to no avail. This is because it’s actually very hard for dealers to become Medicare providers, again making it hard for patients to get free scooters, again saving the insurance money. We don’t work with Medicare. We also do not bill private insurances directly. Some private insurances may reimburse you outside of Medicare’s framework. To check if your insurer does this, we recommend contacting them directly and asking. If they say yes, we’re happy to provide invoices/proof of purchases so you can get your money back from your insurer. Here’s a full disclaimer with regard to Medicare/Medicaid: Notice to Medicare/Medicaid Beneficiaries. Medicare will pay for medical equipment and supplies only if a supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have a Medicare supplier number. Medicare will not pay for any medical equipment and supplies we sell or rent to you. You will be personally and fully responsible for payment.

What do I need to do to purchase the EWheels EW-18 online/over the phone?

To purchase over the phone, simply call our toll-free number 1-888-233-5563 and we can help you from there. If you are sure about the model you want, all we would need is your payment method (easiest is credit card or cash/checking account card) and your shipping address. If you aren’t quite sure which model to choose, we can offer suggestions and advice to your heart’s content - until you’re perfectly satisfied.

What happens after my order for the EWheels EW-18 is placed?

After your order for the EW-18 is placed, you will see a screen that looks like this one:
You will also receive an email confirmation, detailing the item you brought and the price you paid. The email will come from: support@heavydutymobility.com. Your email confirmation will contain instructions regarding delivery, please read these carefully. As soon as your item ships, we will send you an email containing a tracking link. Clicking on this link will allow you to track the shipping progress of your scooter. If you chose standard, curbside delivery at checkout: The shipping company will call you to schedule a delivery appointment - you don’t have to take the first day available - you can delay receiving your scooter for a couple of days if that works better for you. We will also provide you with their number so you can call to preemptively arrange an appointment, or incase they fail to call you. The shipping company will call you usually within an hour of delivery, to let you prepare yourself at the curbside nearest to your home. The truck (very often an 18-wheeler) will deposit your scooter on the curbside, on a wooden crate. For more info on unpacking, see the question below “How does my product arrive, is any setup required?” If you choose White Glove Delivery at checkout: The scooter will be sent to a technician in your area for setup. Once they have set it up (usually 1-2 business days), they will give you a call to arrange delivery. You have paid for a premium service, so here you can really ask the tech to deliver at any time that suits you, delay for some time if you aren’t ready for delivery, etc. If in doubt, just call us at 1-888-233-5563. At the time of delivery appointment, the local technician will bring the scooter right into your house, wherever you want it. In most cases, the tech will be able to advise you on how to operate the scooter.

It’s a simple online process, usually with an instant eligibility response, but many less tech-savvy customers prefer help over the phone. [xyz-ihs snippet="Live-chat-two"]

Shipping, Warranty & Returns

Shipping

How long from the time of order until I get my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter?

This very much depends on two factors: the stock status above and how far you are from Phoenix AZ, where most EWheels scooters ship out from. Bear in mind, different colors of the same model can have different stock statuses. The stock status for this scooter can be seen just under the product title at the top of the page.
  • This item can ship out as soon as the same business day the order is placed. Once shipped out, you can expect a transit time 4-5 business days. Please note these are indicative times and can vary based on how far you are from the supplier warehouse and the volume of orders being received. Also note that upgrades or extra accessory additions to your order may require extra time for installation.
  • If an EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter is showing LEAD TIME with a number of weeks indicated, the estimated ship out time is that lead time plus standard ship out and transit time indicated in the paragraph above.

    [xyz-ihs snippet="Live-Chat"]

Please note, we have excellent relationships with our suppliers/manufacturers. If we are showing an item as having a lead time, it’s almost certainly the same for other dealers who might not have the most up-to-date information on the websites and may show the item as having a lead time.

  • If an EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter is showing OUT OF STOCK above, please contact us for more details. You can call us at [xyz-ihs snippet="Live-Chat-three"]

Please note, we have excellent relationships with our suppliers/manufacturers. If we are showing an item as out of stock, it’s almost certainly the same for other dealers who might not have the most up-to-date information on the websites and may show the item as in stock.

Why are there such long lead times on some mobility scooters?

Covid has dealt a horrible blow to pretty much every industry on the planet. Right from mining materials to processing them to the factories that produce parts, shipping and freight companies - at every stage of the chain there are workforce shortages and severe delays.

My EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter is showing a long lead time above. Why should I buy a scooter now if in any case I won’t get it right away?

Unfortunately, the way things are nowadays, with delays across the entire supply chain, if you wait until there is no lead time on your scooter, you might end up waiting forever. As soon as new stock comes in, it is assigned to orders that were already placed, sometimes weeks in advance. We don’t know how soon the situation will get better - and it may actually get worse before getting better again.

For this reason, customers are placing their orders as soon as they are able, to be placed on the list for as soon as the next scooters are ready to ship.

Where will my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter ship from?

EWheels mobility scooters generally ship from the main warehouse in Phoenix, AZ.

Who will ship my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter?

Your mobility scooter will be shipped by a freight company such as Southwest Freight Lines ForwardAir, etc. In most instances, your scooter is delivered by 18-wheeler, unless you choose white glove delivery.

How does the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter arrive – is any setup required?

If you choose white glove delivery, your scooter will be 100% ready to ride. With standard delivery, the scooter is pretty much assembled ready to ride, including batteries which are preinstalled. You just need to go through a few simple steps.
  • Your scooter will be boxed in cardboard and fastened with the use of tie-downs. We advise you to come prepared with a sharp pair of scissors/knife.
  • You can simply cut the cardboard box open, cut the tie downs and roll your scooter off the crate.
  • Your scooter will be partially charged, enough to ride it into your home for charging.
  • Note the wheels might have some air let out for safety during transit. You should top them up to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer in the user’s manual.
  • The seat may be folded down. There will be a lever at the side of the seat allowing you to raise it.
  • The tiller may be folded down too. Simply move the tiller into position as per the manual instructions, allowing you to raise it to driving position.
  • Mirrors may need to be screwed into the handlebars.

How do I book a delivery appointment slot for my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter?

The shipping company delivering your scooter will call you to arrange delivery. We will also give you their number so you can call them to preemptively arrange an appointment.

What if I miss my delivery appointment slot for my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter?

If you miss your delivery appointment, the shipping company will usually take your scooter back to their local terminal in your area and try to reschedule an appointment. There is usually no charge for one extra appointment. Please contact us to keep us in the loop if you do miss your appointment so we can ensure the scooter isn’t sent all the way back to the place of origin.

What if my order hasn’t arrived by the time it was supposed to?

Especially since Covid, which made the truck driver shortage issue even worse than it was, your shipment might be delayed. If this happens, please call us 1-888-233-5563, or the number of the shipping company we provide you with so you can get an update on your shipping status.

What happens if my order for an EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter is damaged?

  • When your scooter arrives, do not sign any forms until you have opened the boxes and ascertained that everything is as it should be.
  • If the external boxes are damaged, make sure to note this next to your signature. Make sure to inspect the contents before signing.
  • If your scooter is damaged in a way that the entire scooter needs to be replaced, just refuse the entire delivery.
  • If your scooter is damaged in a way that a spare part needs to be sent out and installed (eg a broken mirror), accept the delivery, and list any damaged items next to your signature.
  • If you find damage after having signed for delivery without any damage notes, this can be really problematic as the shipping company may try to shift the blame onto you. This is why it’s important to check for damage, especially if the outside boxes are damaged.

What happens if my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter breaks down?

If your scooter malfunctions, please contact us.

Sometimes we are able to troubleshoot with you over the phone to fix the issue. In other cases, it’s a matter of shipping out a simple part, say if a knob needs replacing, under warranty conditions.

If this does not work, for this scooter, diagnosing is the customer’s responsibility and you might have to hire a technician to identify the fault. Once the fault is identified, a replacement part will be shipped out if under warranty. Installing the part is once again the customer’s responsibility. Please checkout our Afiscooters collection page - these scooters come with a more comprehensive warranty including free labor diagnosing and repairs.

If you need someone to install parts or for other labor services, local technicians are available throughout the contiguous USA , at your cost.

Contact us for help finding a tech, or for more details.

May the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter be driven on pedestrian sidewalks?

Though we cannot guarantee for all states and localities, wherever we have put this question to the law enforcement of any particular area, we have always been told that since this mobility scooter is used by and designed for disabled people, it may be ridden on pedestrian sidewalks, as long as this is done within reason.

This means riding at a safe speed where others are around and being considerate of the other users that share the sidewalk.

How can I avoid my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter from being stolen?

  • Your EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter comes with a unique ignition key, and much like a car, cannot be started without it.

Daily Operation & Transportation

Daily Operation

I only have use of my left hand. Can the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter work for left handed users? Can the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter be operated with one hand?

This scooter’s throttle/accelerator lever can be placed either on the right or left side. Please ask us for this modification before ordering.

With a scooter that has automatic braking which kicks in as soon as you let go of the throttle, you only need one hand to activate the accelerator, drive and stop.

It is also possible to steer the scooter with the same hand you’re using for the throttle lever, though this is a slightly harder way to drive.

Can I ride the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter in the rain, snow, wind and hot sun?

  • Rain: It’s OK and safe if you get caught in the rain once in a while, or go through an occasional puddle, but you should try to avoid a trip if you know it’s going to rain.
  • Snow and ice: We cannot take responsibility for using the scooter in these kinds of weather conditions.
  • Cold weather: Fine, though it does negatively impact the battery health and lifetime.
  • Wind: Generally not an issue unless very strong winds that could tip the scooter over. If you have a mobility scooter with a canopy, remember, very strong winds can act as a sail to tip over your scooter.
  • Hot sun: No issue as far as the scooter is concerned. Remember to take along ample hydration!

Do the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter batteries need maintenance?

This mobility scooter uses maintenance-free batteries which do not need any care until they die, after around 2 years of use.

How often should my EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter be inspected?

It’s a good idea to have your scooter checked once a year by a qualified technician.

Call us 1-888-233-5563 to get details on a local technician in your area.

You should also call us or a local tech if you hear strange noises coming out of your scooter.

Transportation

Will the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter fit in my car trunk/truck bed?

This scooter will not fit in the vast majority of car trunks. It will however fit on most pickup truck beds.

If you’re planning on transporting your mobility scooter on a pickup truck bed, you’ll probably need a ramp to get the scooter up onto the truck bed.

Please contact us for more details at [xyz-ihs snippet="Live-Chat-three"]

I don’t have a large enough vehicle to transport the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter. What are my options?

  • Electric lift: The most common solution is to purchase a platform-style vehicle lift, which sits on your trailer hitch.

If you don’t have a trailer hitch on your vehicle, you’ll need to have one installed. The platform lowers right down to road level, you ride the scooter onto the platform, secure the scooter with provided straps and then activate a lift which raises the platform a few feet off the ground. You’ll need a vehicle that can take a max tongue weight of at least 500 lbs, so this won’t work for saloon and hatchback vehicles.

    Explore our electric lifts collection.

  • Manual Platform: Like an electric lift, this has a platform which sits on your trailer hitch, but this platform does not rise and decened, instead, it has a built-in ramp which flips out, allowing you to roll the scooter up onto the platform.

You’ll need a vehicle that can take a max tongue weight of at least 500 lbs, so this won’t work for saloon and hatchback vehicles.

Explore our collection of manual platforms.

  • Scooter trailer: This is a full-fledged trailer on its own wheels, which attaches to your trailer hitch.

There is just one company that designs and produces a trailer specifically for mobility scooters, or you can just get any generic trailer whose specifications match the S4 in terms of weight and dimensions.

Explore our collection of scooter trailers.

Do you sell vehicle lifts, platform ramps and trailers for the EWheels EW-18 mobility scooter?

We do indeed. Explore our collection of vehicle lifts. Explore our collection of platform ramps. Explore our collection of scooter trailers.
