All Terrain Mobility Scooters Off Road
This page shows our collection of all-terrain/ off-road mobility scooters. All terrain scooters are defined as scooters with a ground clearance of 5” or more.
It’s important to stress that when we refer to these scooters as all-terrain, we aren’t thinking of all-terrain in the same sense as popularly-known ATVs (all terrain vehicles) – the type young people use to do stunts etc.

What does all-terrain/off-road mobility scooter ground clearance mean?
Ground clearance is the amount of space between the underside of the all terrain scooter and the ground, when the scooter is on flat ground. This does not include the wheels which obvious touch the ground, but sometimes you’ll find that, for example, a motor might protrude lower towards the ground than the rest of your scooter’s underside.
Manufacturers generally count the ground clearance as marking the minimum space you will have, taking into account the furthest protruding object under your scooter. In rare occasions, a ground clearance figure will be given for different parts of the underside e.g. Ground Clearance: 3” at deck.
Ground clearance is helpful in determining which kind of obstacles your all terrain mobility scooter can navigate, and this is an especially important factor when choosing an all-terrain mobility scooter which will have all kinds of hindrances on the paths it takes. The more ground clearance, the higher an obstacle can be and the scooter will still be able to cope with it.
In theory, if a scooter’s ground clearance is 5”, it should be able to come with obstacles up to 5” high, though give yourself some room in an imperfect world.
A high ground clearance will also make it easier for you to go up and down curbs and thresholds without getting stuck or dragging the bottom of your scooter.
You don’t have to be planning on taking an all terrain mobility scooter over rough ground in order to benefit from its great advantages.
It could be that even for smooth terrain you simply want:
- An extra comfy, high-back seat
- Great, smooth suspension
- A high quality product that can take stress
- Strong motor – great on inclines
- Great driving range (measured in miles) per charge
- Good quality wheels and tires
